‘Tegan & Sara’ in Shepherd’s Bush

This painting was created by Anna Jaxe as part of the Considerate Constructors Community Involvement Initiative for the extension to the Dorsett Hotel currently under construction within this hoarding.

It was commissioned by the Joint Venture of China Zhejiang Construction Group (H.K.) Limited and Westfields Construction Limited. On her website, Jaxe describes the subjects of the painting as follows: “The sisters are now queer icons after speaking openly about their sexuality and experiences surrounding their identity for over 20 years.”

It is part of ‘The Queer Viability Project’, which is a series of portraits spray-painted in various locations on the street in her own stencilled style. The aim of this project is to blur boundaries and engage the queer community with street art.
